John did not enjoy the best of health in recent years but he always put is best foot forward and kept his spirits high.
John became a Rotarian on the 14th of October 1977 and served the Club and Rotary International well for 34 Years
As a member of the Club John served his fellow members in the posts of President (1991-92) when the theme for his year in office was “Look beyond yourself.” this I feel was something that John managed to achieve. Over and above being President John tackled other jobs in the Club these were Speaker Secretary, Attendance Officer, Assistant Editor and latterly Club Protection Officer.
President Liam Donnelly in his year of office seen fit that John should be made a Paul Harris Fellow this was done on the 13th January 2006 and John proudly wore this distinguished award with pride.
He was a great community man, working for over 20 years with the East Kilbride Talking Books for the blind. Supplying news from the local paper and from the Scottish Farmer
He was a keen competitor when it came to quiz’s he participated regularly in this type of event and appeared to very happy when he was in the loosing side. Especially when Rotary were involved
In recent years come rain or shine he never thought twice about making himself available when it came to rattling the collection can outside Morrison’s or B&Q when the Rotary Club were collecting for Cancer Research.
John will be indeed sadly missed by all who new him and our condolences from his fellow Rotarians go out to his daughters Linda, Fiona and his three grandchildren.
