September 8th Annual Am/AM Golf Tournament

Youth Speaks total of 14 teams

3 Pupils from Calderglen High School and 2 from St Andrews and St Brides High School attended an interview process last night with the selected pupils representing East Kilbride Rotary Club and Kittoch Rotary Club in RIBI Euroscola poject

Jean Murray from Kittoch Rotary Club carried out interviews in French with Leslie Irvine and Ray Porrelli from EK Rotary Club interviewing in English.

The criteria for the Euroscola selection is a high standard in French, fit in as a team member or leader and to have the necessary skills to debate in French with 500 other pupils in the Strasburg Parliament.

As part of the selection each pupil supplied a CV and an essay on their chosen topic about Europe.

After a great deal of discussion Kirsty McMonagle from St Andrews and St Brides and David Logan from Calderglen were chosen as the 2 Euroscolas.

Both will travel to Strasburg early next year and spend 5 days mixing with Euroscolas from other European countries. On one of the days they will venture out onto the streets with their own questionnaire and on the Friday they will take over Strasburg Parliament for debating.

The Rotary Club of East Kilbride made a number of charitable donations . £4000 of toys were purchased from Clyde Importers and Boots the Chemist to provide Christmas presents for 343 children in East Kilbride. The cost was split between the club and the company Multi Packaging Solutions.

A donation of £200 from the Wishing Well at the Heritage Park was made to Calderglen High School pupils to help towards their forthcoming trip to South Africa in February. A further donation of £300 from the Wishing Well was made to the Special Needs Adventure Playground.

Curlers from Canada, USA, England and Scotland travelled to Hamilton Ice Rink, Lanarkshire to take part in the 24th Rotary World Curling Championship, 7 days of curling culminating with the finals on Friday 13th April.Four teams from Canada, 3 representing Scotland and USA and one from England

Apprentice of the Year is Greig Williams of Vallourec Oil &Gas UK Ltd.Presentation was made to him on the 1st of June 2018

Poppy Collection

Organised by Roddy Shanks who, with the aid of volunteers raised £14000 towards the East Kilbride area collection.

A buffet evening was held at the Bruce Hotel on 9 February for all the volunteers, when Roddy reported on the success of the collections in October/November

Youth Speaks: Both winning teams in the Club competition were from St Andrew's & St Bride's High and each progressed through the District 1230 finals to the Regional competition held in Dundee in March.

The Intermediate team comprising Katie Nelson, Eloise McNulty and Niamh Greig won their regional event and subsequently the UK National competition held in Exmouth on 12 May. See attached photo

Burns competition for the primary schools was also held in February when 39 individual and two choir entries took part. A very enjoyable evening with over 100 parents and friends attending.
