2008 In November 2008 PP Barry Wood started to grow his hair for one year as a fund raising event for "Let us Shine Africa" and "The Ruth Memorial Orphanage Nursery" £3000 has already been distributed to the charities
During the summer months several Rotarians gave their time doing enviromental work at  Calderglen park. this was all organised by Rotarian Roddy Shanks.

The "Doos" pigeon races again raised over £600 for Foundation.

Archie King, George McGraw and Tom Wilson travelled to Ayr to uplift  the Canadian GSE party, who were Leah Dawonik, Wayne Gibson, Robin Hood (Leader), Ryan Jillard and Sarah Burton and deliver them to their East Kilbride Rotarian hosts who were George & Frances McGraw, Frank & Isobel Mcluskey, Archie & Enid King, Ben & Linda  Miloudi Edwin & Rina Robertson GSE party from Alberta (Leah...., Wayne...., Robin.... Ryan ....and Sarah.....)and deliver them to their EK Rotarian hosts(names in bracket) where they unpacked before visiting The National Museum for Rural Life where they had lunch before touring the farmstead. This was followed by a tour of the Village Arts Centre, a walk round the Heritage Park which culminated in emptying the "Fairy Nuff"  Wishing Well before retiring to their hosts homes for a rest and dinner.

There was little rest for the party in the following four days when they visited Hamilton,Glasgow and Edinburgh before concluding their stay with a visit to the Club for lunch on Friday.
The work done by Archie King & George McGraw for this visit has to be recorded as excellent and the hosting from Barry & Denise Wood greatly appreciated. A big thank you to Brian Wood  Ben Miloudi on being available for driving the Students around is also appreciated.
President Frank & Isobel, Past Presidents Jim Anderson and Myra, Barry Wood & Denise, Ian Wiseman and Norma, Secretary George McGraw and Frances attended the District Conference in Perth on the 3-5th October

Founder Member Tom Gilfillan who was a member up until his demise  on the 16th of July 2008. Tom served  as President of the Club in the Rotary year 1973-74 and became a Paul Harris Fellow on 1997.

Young Chef of the year competiion held for the first time.

B&Q collections for Cancer Research so far in this Rotary year have brought in over £2,500. Christmas collection at B&Q brought in £1438.86

Past President Barry Wood & Non Rotarian Fiona Marra were made Paul Harris Fellows by East Kiilbride Rotary Club.

Schools Burns Competition another success story this year with 7 schools participating

Sadly after a period of illness Past President, Paul Harris Fellow, Honorary member John  K. Kilpatrick passed on in the early part of 2009. 

Special Evening meeting held to celebrate Paul Harris Fellow, Past President Bob Duncans 90th birthday. Club presented Bob with a quality Crystal Decanter and 6 Glasses specially engraved. 46  people were in attendance at the East Kilbride Golf Club.

Our AGM took place on the 15h April with 19 in attendance

First Cancer Research Collection of the year at Morrison's Super market raised £2801.45 with Ben Miloudi,John Morning, Edwin Robertson, John Cardno, David Brown, George and Francis McGraw, Ray Porrelli, Brian Wood, Alan Rae, Roddy Shanks, Barry Wood, Frank McLuskey, Andrew Ferguson, George Ferguson, Archie King and Barclay Wales giving of their time.

Relay for Life held on the 12th-13th june at this stage looke like another huge success raising £108,000 this of course willnot be ratified until all monies are collected.

Final accolade came when District Governor Catherine Stewart awarded the Club the District ''Club of the Year Award ''
