2004 Membership is continuing to fall but there has not been a year where we have not recruited, so President Douglas Kilpatrick is hoping that we can see an increase from our present level of 39. Theme for this year is "Celebrate Rotary."
RELAY FOR LIFE 2005 Preparation of sports field at John Wright Sports Centre for the 24 hour walk was organised by the Club. After the relay for life held on the 17th June it is anticipated that our efforts in organising this event will bring in £25,250 for Cancer Research.
President Douglas Kilpatrick & Rosalind had the support of 90 guests at the clubs annual dance. The raffle was a great success and raised in excess of £1000 for administration costs for the Relay for Life that is being organised by the Club later in the year.
2005 Centenary visit to Ballerup was made by seven East Kilbride Rotarians this trip was extra to the normal visitation pattern and those who went enjoyed the experience.
Top Apprentice picked up a cheque for £150 for his achievement of being the
Apprentice of the year.
The Club yet again ran a successful Burns competition for our primary schools.
Our Club were represented by President Douglas & Rosalind Kilpatrick accompanied by Club Secretary Edwin & Rina Robertson, Tom & Bessie Gilfillan at a joint service in Glasgow Cathedral on the 27th February 2005 to “Celebrate 100 years of Rotary.”
David Mackay joined East Kilbride Rotary Club on the 26th January 1968 giving the Club 36 years of active service. David served on Club Council & became President 1976-77 After which he served as Club auditor from1979 until 2001. David was made a Paul Harris Fellow in 1997. In his latter years David did not enjoy good health but still found the energies to “Serve others before self” with his contributions to the East Kilbride Talking Book Club.
District Governor John McLaren presented the Club with a certificate from Water Aid for making the largest donation of any Club in RIBI to their Charity.
Once again we ran a successful Burns lunch and Burns competition.
The widespread devastation caused by the Asian Tsunami triggered an immediate response from members of the Club who joined Rotarians from other local clubs in the Town Centre from 2nd to 4th January and raised a massive total of £25,250. for the Tsunami appeal
Another first for the club in winning the Gartside Curling Trophy.
Barry Wood & Jim Moretti represented the District on this years Canadian curling tour the tour lasted for 4 weeks
