Past President Barry Wood handed over the Chain of Office on Friday the 27th of June 2003 to the Clubs new President Jim Anderson, 72 people attended the change over in the Torrance Hotel, one of the largest attendances that the members of the Club could recall. A three course meal was provided by the Club for Rotarians and wives
President Jim Anderson looked forward to his year in office and would be delighted to see in his year in office and hoped that a positive effort would be made to increase the Club membership to 50 in his year. He also wanted to concentrate on the many smaller local charities which were not well funded, and if possible, institute a Rotary family day.
R.I.B.I. President Brian Stoyel & his wife Maxine visited the club on the 1st of August 2003 accompanied by the District Governor Ian Campbell & his wife Nettie.
A special day in the Clubs history when Fiona Kilpatrick, a special young lady, was made President of East Kilbride for the day. Fiona carried out her duties for the day in a way that it was difficult for Jim Anderson to get his Chain of Office back.
The launch of our New King of Clubs weekly Rotary meeting competion was launched to raise monies for Charity by Past President Andrew Ferguson with one third of the money going on Prize money and 2 thirds going to our Charity fund. How does it work well the members can have 4 numbers max at a £1 per number,if their number is drawn they then have the right to draw a card form the pack if it is the King of Clubs they win the prize money gathered, if they do not draw the King of Clubs their card is not replaced in the pack and each week the price money increases until the King of Clubs is drawn.
In conjunction with our daughter club we contributed £250 towards buying new decorations for Hairmyres hospital. £500 donated to the Ronald McDonald House that provides accommodation for families of sick children. £500 donated to St Andrews Hospice. 10 people attended the district Conference at Dundee.
This year seen another cheque being presented to one of our now regular charities Cancer Research. The Club's fund raising activities were organised by John Cardno who encouraged greater participation from all the member’s. Through participation fellowship would be increased and more money could be raised for charity with only minimal amount of greater effort.
As a result of the effort by the Club's participants in Relay for Life, President Jim Anderson was able to present a cheque for £2500 to Ben Jones of Cancer Research. This formed a part of the total amount of £25,000 raised at the event.
President Jim certainly gained a first in that the Club provided Councillors for two Ambassadorial students from Japan, by name Chie Ishii studying a post graduate course in Adult & Continuous Education and Nakoa Sato studying History.
