As you know Rotary is trying to raise funds to match
the amazing donation from the Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation and clubs have been asked to raise $1000
a year for the next three years. This has not been
helped with the poor strength of the pound against
the dollar as we have to raise more money just to
get what we were when the pound was stronger.
That said, we had targeted a figure of £1,000.00
for last year and I
am delighted to say that we finished off with £1,700.00, so a very successful year for us and thanks to everyone that supported our events and made
donations.

To continue the good work from last year the committee have a few plans for fund raising and thanks to PP Ian Macpherson, the monies raised from the Doo’s will again go to Foundation this year so we hope that you will dig deep and buy those birds. Our first fundraising event took place last week, when I arranged a round of golf at the private Archerfield Links club, just outside of Gullane. Commsworld put up two four-balls and one was taken by Jim Anderson who is arranging for some of his staff to go and this is will be played in mid-August. The second was taken by Archie King, George McGraw, David Brown and myself.

The day started of wet and for the first couple of holes it was full water-proofs and brollies, but by the 3rd hole it started to clear up and from then on we had a dry day, which made it much more enjoyable. We split into teams and George and I won the first nine, with David and Archie winning the back nine, but George and I just held on to win overall. It was a long round, just on 5 hours, but I think overall it was a success and everyone enjoyed the fellowship. The monies raised from this event will be in excess of £400.00 so not a bad start to the year.

We have a few ideas for other events and we will come back to you when they are arranged and I hope that we can count on your support to make this another successful year for Rotary Foundation.

For six weeks from mid August each year members of our Club participate in their Annual pigeon races these are reported each week by Past President Ian Macpherson as seen in the picture.

This year the money raised will be going to eradicate polio via Rotary Foundation. Prizes are donated each week by members and the winners duly rewarded if their bird is in the first five, plus we have the "Mug of the Week" for the last "Doo" to arrive home. All in alll this has been over the years a great way to raise funds, this year £ 600 has been raised. Gentlemen well done and thank you for your support.
Christmas Cards
Our latest ploy to raise cash for Polio Plus has came from our Club magazine where we are passing  Christmas greetings to each other rather than exchanging cards. This has brought in £245
On Saturday the 20th February Rotarians gathered in Peters Seafood & Grill in the village for a celebratory dinner as a way to raise some extra cash for the elimination of Polio World wide on the evening another £ 200 went into the coffers for the Clubs Polio Plus campaign. The total raised for the year is closing in around the
£2000 mark and if this achieved the club will have more than doubled the target set by Rotary International for all the clubs world wide of a $1000 per club .

Entertainment was provided by local singing group Capricorniche who added that little extra sparkle to the evening
